FAQs
  • Is there an age limit?

Yes there is. In order to be considered, you need to be over 18yrs at the start of training and 50 years or under at 1-2-2025.

  • When does training start and when are the fights?

Training will commence on February 4th 2025 and run for 10 weeks prior to the event. The event is scheduled to take place on Friday 11th April 2025.

Trainings by Garage Box will be held on Tuesdays 7pm, Thursdays 7pm and Saturdays 11am

  • Where is the training held?

Training and tuition will be completed by Garage Box and held at Garage Gym, Methven and also a gym in Ashburton which has a boxing ring

  • I already train at another gym in town, can I just train there?

No, you will need to train with Garage Box coaches. Safety is our primary concern and you won't be given a fight if the coach doesn't think you can safely compete.

  • How much does it cost to take part?

The fee for training with Garage Box is $ 795.00 for 10 weeks training,  3 training sessions per week .

Training sessions will be held at Garage Gym Methven and an Ashburton gym for the last 5 Saturdays using their ring.

The fee will include one free PT session with Joe Keepa and also nutritional and online support.

Fighters often secure sponsorship from their employers to help cover this cost.

If you get selected to fight, there are further costs to consider as follows, NZPBA registration $ 50.00, Blood Tests $ 180.00, Medical Examination $ 50.00.

  • Am I guaranteed a fight?

No, unfortunately not. Signing up gets you into the training program but it takes more than just signing up to get you into the ring.  Final selections will be made about 4-5 weeks out when everyone has had the chance to learn to box and get to a suitable level of fitness.  Several factors influence you getting a fight such as your level of fitness and being able to match you with a suitable opponent.

  • What happens if I don't get selected for a fight?

We encourage fighters to keep training as the likelihood is that we will need some substitute fighters due to withdrawals or injury.

  • Can my kids come and watch?

This event is R18, so attendees must be older than 18 years.

  • When do corporate tables and tickets go on sale?

We start offering tables out to sponsors and fighters at the start of the event planning process, then open to the public shortly after.

  • Can I get my training sponsored

Yes, absolutely. Our fighters often get their employers to help with training costs.

  • Is this a charity event?

No, this is a commercial event being promoted by Ri Ra Events Limited however we incorporate a chartible element into all of our larger events including Battle of The Alps.

  • Will I receive a refund of my training fees if I quit?

No, Battle of The Alps is a commitment. There will be a limited number of training places so there will be no refunds.
